Adaptive Yoga for Monroe County

Our Roots

Take It To The Mat Community Yoga was born from a simple belief: wellness should never depend on income, age, ability, or circumstance. Yoga is not a luxury—it is a community resource. Our roots began in 2016 with a yoga mat, a desire to serve, and the understanding that healing happens when people are welcomed exactly as they are. What started as teaching yoga has grown into a community-centered mission of creating safe, accessible spaces where every person can move, breathe, connect, and belong. Through a partnership with Safepath that began in 2025, we extended our reach to senior centers and local businesses. Through these community-based classes, we have witnessed the power of adaptive yoga helping older adults regain confidence, trauma-informed practices supporting those navigating grief and life transitions, and mindful movement reminding people that they are stronger than they believe. These experiences have shaped who we are today. At Take It To The Mat Community Yoga, we believe every body is worthy of care. We meet people where they are—whether seated in a chair, standing on a mat, recovering from injury, living with chronic illness, or simply taking their very first breath of a new beginning. Our work extends beyond yoga classes. Through education, partnerships, wellness programs, and community outreach, we will continue to strive to remove barriers to health and create opportunities for lifelong well-being. Every class, every conversation, and every act of service is rooted in compassion, dignity, and the belief that healing grows in community. These are our roots. They ground us in service, guide our mission, and remind us that when one person finds healing, our entire community grows stronger. Welcome to Take It To The Mat Community Yoga. Welcome home.

Take It To The Mat Community Yoga

Company Philosophy

Ancient Wisdom. Everyday Wellbeing.

At Take It To The Mat Community Yoga, we believe yoga is more than physical movement—it is a way of living that cultivates compassion, resilience, integrity, and connection. Our work is inspired by the Eight Limbs of Yoga as described in the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali. Rather than viewing these teachings as rules, we embrace them as practical principles that guide how we care for ourselves, one another, and our community.

Yama – How We Care for Others We strive to create spaces rooted in kindness, respect, honesty, generosity, and compassion. Every person deserves to be welcomed with dignity, regardless of age, ability, background, income, or life experience.

Niyama – How We Care for Ourselves We encourage self-awareness, personal growth, gratitude, and resilience. Healing begins with learning to meet ourselves with curiosity and compassion rather than judgment.

Asana – Embodying Strength and Ease Movement is a tool for wellness, not performance. We believe every body is a yoga body, and we adapt our classes so participants can practice safely and confidently at every stage of life.

Pranayama – The Power of Breath The breath is one of our greatest resources for calming the nervous system, building resilience, and cultivating presence. We teach breathing practices that support physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing.

Pratyahara – Turning Toward Awareness Healing begins when we pause. Through mindful awareness, we learn to notice our thoughts, emotions, and physical sensations with greater clarity, creating space for intentional choices instead of automatic reactions.

Dharana – Focus We cultivate the ability to direct our attention toward what matters most. Through mindful practice, we strengthen concentration, resilience, and purpose.

Dhyana – Presence We value the practice of being fully present. Whether through movement, breath, meditation, or quiet reflection, we create opportunities to reconnect with ourselves and our communities.

Samadhi – Connection Our highest aspiration is connection—to ourselves, to one another, and to something greater than ourselves. We believe that healing grows in community and that wellness is strengthened when it is shared.

Our Commitment

These principles shape every class, workshop, training, and community partnership we offer. They remind us that yoga is not about perfection; it is about practice. By honoring the wisdom of the Eight Limbs in everyday life, we seek to remove barriers to wellness, foster belonging, and empower individuals and communities to move, breathe, heal, connect, and thrive.

We believe wellness belongs to everyone in Monroe County. Our community yoga program brings soft, accessible mindfulness directly to neighborly spaces across Vonore, Madisonville, Sweetwater, and Tellico Plains at zero or low cost.
